Have you ever wondered who does your favorite Bollywood stars’ hair? Radhika Mehra did it too before she started her famous journey as a stylist for the creme de la creme of B-town. And she launched her foray with none other than the legendary Manish Malhotra.

Talking about how she fell in love with Manish’s work, Radhika shares, “Having starry eyes since childhood, I was always impressed with how stylish Karisma Kapoor was in all her films in the 90s and in the early 2000s and I was curious how can I get my hands on the clothes she was wearing. That somewhere kinda started my love for fashion and styling without knowing it. I started digging to get all the info I could and learned that the one who did her hair in each of those movies turned out to be Manish Malhotra I absolutely fell in love with everything he did by His ideas, his choice of colors and his style, I was mesmerized by it all.

Radhika feels blessed to have learned from the man himself. “My association with Manish was a dream come true. Ever since I can remember, I was a fan. As a little girl, all I wanted was to work with him one day, and when that journey started , full circle for me. Project after project I kept realizing what made him was his hard work, dedication and love for what he did. I just considered myself lucky to be able to learn and seize every day that I worked with him for seven years,” she raves.

Kajol has been her muse for years, “What I love most about working with Kajol is that she’s fearless and allows me to broaden my perspective when it comes to styling her. results are always beautiful. Plus, with Kajol, it never feels like a day at work. We had the best times. There’s lots of laughter, lots of food and lots of love when you’re with her,” explains Radhika.

Shefali Shah

Radhika recently styled Shefali Shah and Kirti Kulhari for the highly publicized web series Human. “My approach was absolutely unconventional. I wanted to break the norms of our perception of how doctors or women in Bhopal dress, basically breaking the stereotype. When I read the script, I was mentally drawing their worlds and designing all these characters, and they were nothing like what Shefali or Kirti had done in the past. I had the chance to work with directors like Vipul A. Shah and Mozez Singh. They had an incredible understanding and clarity of these characters and their layers,” she says.

Radhika had to stylize all the characters according to their nature and characteristics. “Each character has been specifically drawn to portray their full personality at a glance. Gauri Nath’s sleek, evil and disturbed footsteps, or the fiery, contemporary and vulnerable vibes of Saira Sabharwal, the intense slumdog vibe of Mangu , the protective but delirious portrait of Roma Ma; everything was amplified and distinctly put together. It was very experimental, but I couldn’t do something without risk because that’s how these characters were written, “he explains. she.

Currently I’m working on a film with Kajol, which is being directed by Revathy, where I do the hair for the entire cast. I’m also working on Bholaa, which is produced by Ajay. It’s the Hindi remake of Kaithi,” she concludes.
