Green beans and bacon are a marriage made in heaven. When caramelized onions join the party, it’s even better.

This easy green bean recipe is ready in about 20 minutes and is the perfect side dish for any protein – chicken, beef, pork or lamb.

Ingredients


  • 1 pound fresh green beans, ends trimmed
  • 1/2 pound bacon, diced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced


Here’s how to do it:


  1. Put the green beans in a pot of boiling salted water for about 5 minutes. Drain and plunge into an ice bath to stop the cooking. Drain well.
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  3. Melt the butter in the same skillet (do not drain the bacon grease). Add the onion and cook until caramelized, about 6-7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook an additional minute.
  4. Add the green beans to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring, until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add the bacon and serve.
