When you have leftover beer at home, but don’t want to drink it or throw it down the drain, cook with it instead.

Two brewers — one makes beer, the other coffee — will open a retail space Friday at the former general store in Jericho, Vermont 15.

Jericho Ale and Bean features products from two Jericho-based companies, Lucy and Howe Brewing and Brew House Coffee Co.

The retail store opens with Brew House Coffee Co. selling cold brew bottles of coffee from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday as well as Saturday. Lucy and Howe will be selling cans of beer from 2-6 p.m. Friday and 1-6 p.m. Saturday.

“Retail only to get started, kids!!” according to a January 8 post on the Jericho Ale and Bean Facebook page. “There’s still a lot of work to do (and we promise you’ll be able to take a look) but we wanted to open our doors as soon as possible.”

The beer part is Lucy and Howe Brewing

Jesse Cronin, a former brewer at Magic Hat Brewing in South Burlington, started Lucy and Howe at his Jericho home shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Beers listed on the brewery’s website include a Belgian-style table beer, a double India pale ale, a British brown pub ale, a milk stout and a black lager.

Cronin told the Burlington Free Press in a Facebook post this week that his plan was to eventually move brewing operations from his home to the new space.

“We’ve always been on the hunt for coffee that tastes amazing and is super convenient – like getting a bottle out of the fridge in a convenient way,” their website says. “After playing around with French presses, espresso machines, pourers and more, we discovered the beauty of cold brew over 5 years ago. Not only does it check the amazing and convenient boxes, but it is easier on the stomach and versatile!

Concoctions listed on the Brew House Coffee website include a dark roast, “Vermont-style” cold brew coffee “with a splash of maple syrup” and a maple latte, which the website calls ” the one who started it all”.
