Sport fishing industry association appoints vice president of communications


The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) announced that Marie beth long joined the ASA staff as vice president of communications.

Long will lead the communications team to promote the Association and its initiatives through its government affairs policy work, its angler-based advocacy campaign, Keep America Fishing, ICAST, the annual trade show of the the sport fishing industry and fisheries conservation advocacy efforts.

“Mary Beth comes to us with extensive experience in communications, public affairs and marketing,” said Glenn Hughes, president of ASA. “She is the perfect complement to our growing organization and will be a key factor in achieving our ambitious new strategic plan. “

Long has over 25 years of experience in public affairs, communications, marketing and government relations. She joined ASA after a long career with the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) where she was Vice President of Marketing and Workforce Development. At AAPA, she oversaw membership marketing and promotion and programming, publications and advertising, social media, professional development and workforce. She also co-managed the Association’s annual convention and initiated the rollout of a $ 6 million grant from the Ministry of Labor.

“I look forward to working with ASA members and the recreational fishing community where I can use my maritime and community experience to help with the implementation of ASA’s new strategic plan,” said Long. “The Association will be launching a number of new initiatives to better communicate with the sport fishing community, and I am delighted to do my part to support the efforts of the ASA.
