TraceX’s Blockchain Platform Will Offer ‘Bean-to-Cup’ Traceability for Coffee Produced by 3,500 Araku Valley Farmers

TraceX announces partnership with international non-profit organization TechnoServe

As part of this partnership, TraceX’s blockchain platform will offer “bean-to-cup” traceability for coffee produced by 3,500 farmers in the Araku Valley

TraceX Technologies, a blockchain-powered traceability platform that improves transparency in the food and supply chain, has partnered with international non-profit organization TechnoServe, to offer end-to-end digital traceability for the coffee produced by 3,500 farmers in the Araku Valley, Andhra Pradesh. Through this partnership with TraceX, TechnoServe can provide its partner brands Blue Tokai and Humble beans the ability to track and record the journey of coffee through every step of the production process, from bean to cup.

Under the Walmart Foundation-funded Sustainable Livelihoods for Smallholder Farmers program, TechnoServe currently works with 4,000 farmers through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in 355 villages in the Araku Valley. Most of these farmers strictly follow organic farming due to which their yield capacity is much lower than their counterparts in Karnataka. Over the years, TechnoServe has helped farmers with training in agronomy, building visibility, increasing coffee productivity, managing post-harvest and providing the necessary business links. To further improve their livelihoods, TechnoServe has partnered with TraceX to ensure consistency in the quality of coffee produced, resulting in improved market linkages for farmers.

Earlier at the end of last month, for the first time in the history of Jharkhand state, seed distribution among farmers was started well before the arrival of the Kharif season, which was made possible through the use of Blockchain-based seed traceability platform.
TraceX’s solution at TechnoServe is a perfect example of seeing Blockchain traceability in action. A connected supply chain with transparency between multiple stakeholders is the need of the hour and this is achieved with TraceX’s Blockchain Traceability Platform.

TechnoServe uses the pre-harvest module to track the connectivity of the first mile of the coffee value chain. This is followed by the integration of Blue Tokai, Humble Beans and Slay Coffee customers on the same blockchain network to track post-harvest processes and generate QR code product identity for consumer engagement. Seamless integration of all stakeholders on a collaborative supply chain platform, creating trusted and authentic customer brands.

TraceX’s digital traceability solution offers the following benefits –

  • Ensure consistent product quality: The TraceX platform offers a database of crops with a set of predefined practices to achieve quality yield.
  • Builds consumer confidence: TraceX lends credibility to claims, provides full product provenance with a quick QR code scan, and helps brand stand out by providing verifiable and authentic information to customers.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance: Farmers must upload authentication certificates to comply with regulations. The data recorded at each stage of the supply chain makes it possible to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Increases visibility for farmers: TraceX creates a digital identity for the farmer’s product and lets the consumer know the story and the people behind their coffee.
  • Sole source of information: Before TraceX, for any product-related questions, farmers were the only source of information. Intermediaries, government agencies and all other stakeholders had to rely entirely on the farmer. This has created a lot of fatigue among farmers to constantly share relevant information. Thanks to TraceX, all this information is now available on the blockchain.

Additionally, TraceX’s platform highlights some of the regenerative and eco-friendly farming practices followed by farmers.

Sandesh Deranna, Coffee Value Chain Manager, TechnoServe, said: “TechnoServe’s ‘Sustainable Livelihoods for Smallholder Farmers’ program, funded by the Walmart Foundation, aims to improve the lives of smallholder farmers in Andhra Pradesh by establishing sustainable and sustainable systems and processes. led locally for FPOs and promoting good farming practices and post-harvest management practices among FPO shareholders. To do this, we are always on the lookout for digital tools that will help farmers improve their incomes and build a better future. TraceX was exactly the solution we were looking for. Through its blockchain-enabled traceability platform, TraceX gives farmers more visibility, improves efficiency and profitability, builds trust and transparency, leading to a better connection with end consumers.

Commenting on the partnership, Srivatsa Sreenivasarao, Co-Founder and CEO, TraceX, said: “Traceability enables a connected supply chain where brands can seamlessly access information about the work done by agricultural producer organizations at the pre-harvest stage. It offers transparency and differentiation to each actor in the supply chain.

“We are thrilled to partner with a brand that has transformed the lives of millions of people in low-income communities. This partnership allows us to create an impact not only on the end consumer, but also to improve the livelihoods of farmers in the Araku Valley region. We look forward to working together on many more initiatives to create a transparent, ethical and sustainable supply chain,” added Srivatsa.

TraceX has a B2B SaaS subscription model where it works with companies across the livestock, poultry, seafood and agriculture supply chains. The company is currently working with over 30 food companies which include prominent names such as Olam, MTR Foods, Slay Coffee, Govt of Telangana, GoDesi, Sam Agri, Milk Mantra and many more.

The company raised $1 million in pre-Series A funding led by the NABARD-backed NABVENTURES fund. The round also saw participation from Paipal Ventures, an early-stage family office investment fund, and angel investor Sunil Kumar.
